Help Spread the Word About Our gofundme Andy Motter Lathe Conversion

Complete gofundme details:

I’m David, the woodworking officer for the Manchester Makerspace.

The woodshop has acquired an old pattern makers lathe (formally owned by Andy Motter) that we are in the process of updating. This lathe is built entirely out of cast iron. It’s substantial bulk and solidly built headstock and ways will make it a great lathe for bowl turning.

We need to raise funds to support this conversion. The funds will be used for (in order of need and importance)

$260 – VFD and Motor, modern variable speed drive
$140 – Drive train parts, pulleys, shaft, bearings
$400 – Banjo, Tool rest, Face plate, chuck etc

The immediate need is for the drive. Any funds raised after that will be used to outfit the lathe for use.

Andy Motter was well known and generous woodturner / teacher. He would be thrilled to see this lathe back in action and being used by the community.

This lathe is sure to be a proud addition to our shop and a conversation started for years to come.

Help us give this old (1870s!) lathe yet another new life.

If you want to see what we are up to come visit an open house event, every Monday from 6PM-8PM at 36 Old Granite Street!
